2016 Trapeze User Conference Highlights: Monday

Reading Time:

The 2016 User Conference started off with a bang! On Sunday April 3rd, our customers attended an opening reception by the pool at the La Cantera Hill Country Resort. From the food to the great weather to the beautiful location and amazing conversations between Trapeze staff and attendees, the event was definitely a success.

The conference kicked off on April 4th, 2016 with a welcome from John Hines, Managing Director at Volaris Group, and Steve Young, VP of Information Technology at VIA Metropolitan Transit, our host agency.

The 2016 UC is all about discussing the latest transit trends and issues that are affecting agencies across North America – and there was no one better to start off the discussion then Greg Lindsay, our day one keynote speaker.

What drew the most attention from the crowd was Greg’s four possible predictions for the future of transit in 2030 –touching on the potential dominance or fall of self-driving cars in transportation, cloud storing physical possessions as well as jetpacks. He laid out his four possible scenarios of what he believes may occur: growth, constraint, collapse or transform (we were live streaming the session – if you’d like to watch it, head over to our customer community, Collaborate, for the Periscope recording).

The rest of the day was filled with highly informative sessions, which ranged from Trapeze University hands-on to customer-led sessions.

During the “Real-Time Information for the Passenger: The New Normal your Passengers Expect,” Bruce Payne, Industry Solutions Manager - Traveler Information, and Andrew McKechnie, Product Director for Traveler Information, explained how customers expect to access up-to-date information, anytime, whether on a coach or walking, and everywhere, from desktop to social media. “If you are not on Twitter, you are not serving your customer,” McKechnie said.

In the “OPS: What’s New & Roadmap” session, Kevin Gilfoyle, Product Director of OPS, along with Tony Ricciardi, OPS Program Manager at WMATA, went over some of the new features in the latest version of OPS, including smart filtering, timekeeping attributes, a OPS statistics personnel report, as well as making OPS-Web mobile responsive.

Marcelo Bravo, Trapeze’s new Director of Rail, hosted a session called “Case Study: Streetcar Project” during which Dave Fulton, Industry Solutions Manager – Scheduling, Planning & Operations, discussed the unique challenges a streetcar system has through a scheduling and dispatch perspective. Arnaud Plichet, Technical Director at RATP Dev America, talked about the challenges when starting up a streetcar system, using Tuscon, Arizona as an example.

There were a wide variety of transit topics that were covered on the first full day of the UC. But what defines the conference the most is the amazing people we get to interact with the most.
