Automated Fare Collection

Our world is constantly evolving and as individuals we are technologically savvy, time sensitive and not to mention busier than ever before. Innovations to accommodate for these traits are necessary and we are seeing them across the globe in several forms, mobile ticketing for transit and driverless cars to name a few. What does the need for innovation mean for transit? In this post, I'll explain the future of faring and how fare collection can be an efficient process for both passengers and agencies alike.

The Innovation of Fare Collection Systems

Fare Collection Systems have come a long way. From the basics of secure money collection with Drop Box, and limited currency detection and data collection with the Registering Farebox, transit is rapidly evolving through its faring solutions.

At Trapeze, we want to support the next step of your agencies' faring evolution. We offer a Validating Farebox which has enhanced currency detection and rich data collection, as well as our cashless solutions which include smart media and mobile ticketing.

Of course, A Fare Collection System is much more than an appealing farebox, it is an end-to-end solution to faring that integrates with both the back office of your agency as well as the physical collection of fares. When looking to implement an Automated Fare Collection system, it is important to know the requirements and the availability of technology within your agency.

A Fare Collection System includes on-board sales and fare collection, payment media, media distribution strategy, reloading, revenue collection (vaulting) and a reporting functionality, that touches all departments in the agency. From design decisions, operations and customer service, to agency demographics like fleet size, staffing and service types, fare collection requires multi-level participation.

Experience the Future of Faring

Sometimes you have to see it to believe it. That is why Trapeze is offering attendees of the 2015 APTA Summit the opportunity to experience the newest offerings from our Automated Fare Collection (AFC) suite. The EZFare soltuion is made up of feature rich products that are flexible enough to be completely stand-alone systems or can easily integrate with other applications.

Our new EZTVM will be present at the booth and available for demos. Trapeze’s self-service ticket vending machines are the latest generation of faring solutions designed for public transit passengers. Transit riders can use various means of payment, including cash, debit and credit cards to purchase their ticket, and recharge or issue a smart card. The easy to use, touchscreen user interface makes the process fast and can be adapted to fit within all transit environments as well as different types of vehicles.

Along with the TVM, our  EZFare Electronic Validating Farebox will also be at the booth. The EZFarebox is a secure, flexible and robust validating Farebox, which uses proven technology that can be customized to meet your unique fare collection needs.
