VIA Metropolitan Transit Showcase Their Transit Technology Innovations at the 2016 Trapeze UC

The second day of the 2016 Trapeze User Conference began with Mark Miller, CEO and Founder of Trapeze Group North America, introducing the day’s keynote speaker, Steve Young, Vice President of Information Technology at VIA Metropolitan Transit.

In his introduction, Miller emphasized the strong relationship between VIA and Trapeze. “VIA Metropolitan Transit has been a valued Trapeze customer for more than 15 years. We’ve worked with VIA to develop a comprehensive transit enterprise solution. They are a true example of innovation in the transit industry,” Miller said.

During his keynote address, Young shared insights on how VIA uses technology to better serve their customers. “As technological innovation accelerates and as generational attitudes about vehicle ownership change, it’s a prime opportunity for transit agencies to attract and retain new customers,” said Young.

He elaborated that transit agencies must think about providing their customers tools and services that match their digital lifestyles. Young highlighted some of VIA’s current and future technology initiatives, as examples that agencies can learn from.

Young’s team oversees a wide range of technology including data center management, application development, business operations support, and intelligent vehicle systems. Young previously served for nine years as Chief Technology Officer at Judson ISD in San Antonio.

VIA is the host agency of the 2016 Trapeze User Conference. During the User Conference, VIA has also been hosting technical tours of their fixed route and demand response services, including a behind-the-scenes look of their new state-of-the-art multimodal transit center, Centro Plaza at VIA Villa and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) TransGuide facility, home to the TxDOT San Antonio District’s Operations Dispatch Center.
