Transit information system improves service, reduces costs
New telephone information system supports fixed route and demand response agencies
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA, USA -
Trapeze Software Group today announced it has completed an agreement with ManTech Systems Solutions Corporation to acquire its ATIS division.
ATIS (Automated Transit Information System) allows public transportation organizations to provide quick telephone and web-based trip planning and information services to passengers. First developed in 1989, ATIS is now the most widely used Internet-based transit information technology in the United States, and is installed in major US cities including Washington DC, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, Buffalo, San Diego and Austin.
"This technology is extremely complementary to the Trapeze solutions for fixed route and paratransit operations," said Mark Miller, president of Trapeze Software Group. "ATIS has built a superior product which successfully uses information from different sources and different transit organizations. The result is accurate door-to-door trip planning for passengers and vastly reduced agent call times."
ATIS uses a patented rapid routing algorithm to enable response times of three seconds or less to most queries. The system incorporates geographic and transit data to deliver passenger information including stop locations, fares, walking distances, schedules, connections to and from other transit modes and delays or detours.
Using ATIS, passengers plan more than 150,000 trips per month on the Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority web site. In New Jersey, up to 4,000 trips per day are planned on the NJ Transit web site using ATIS technology.
"We are very impressed with the ATIS algorithm, as well as the company's team and track record," Miller said. "Their technology has immense opportunity for expansion into areas such as personalized web-based and wireless trip booking and trip-by-trip eligibility systems for paratransit operations. This will help us work with our clients to create more efficient regional transit systems by integrating faster call center and web-based information services with our fixed route and paratransit products."
ATIS will continue to operate from offices in Virginia, and the company expects no disruption in its services to existing clients. Trapeze Software Group delivers proven, scalable, innovative solutions for public, demand response, and school transportation.
Transit organizations throughout North America, Europe and the United Kingdom use the company's integrated scheduling, dispatch, routing and fleet management products to increase efficiency, improve service and control costs. Trapeze Software has sales and service offices in the United States, Canada, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
ManTech Systems Solutions Corporation is a subsidiary of ManTech International Corporation which is headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia.
