Trapeze Launches IVR Product

New telephone information system supports fixed route and demand response agencies

December 19, 2002 (Mississauga, ON) Trapeze Software today announced the release of Trapeze IVR, a new VoiceXML-based interactive telephone information system that delivers transit information and services to fixed route and demand response passengers.

The product integrates seamlessly with Trapeze FX fixed route scheduling software to deliver real-time next bus information and transit bulletins. Agencies can also integrate IVR with PASS, Trapeze’s demand response scheduling and dispatch software, enabling clients to book, confirm and cancel trips over the phone without speaking to a call center agent.

An optional call-back feature will remind paratransit customers of upcoming trips.

Based on open standards, Trapeze IVR employs an XML framework developed to deliver transit information to many kinds of devices. The product incorporates text-to-speech and automatic speech recognition technologies that let callers interact dynamically with schedules and other information.

“The industry is moving away from proprietary technologies,” said Rick Bacchus, President of Trapeze Software. “Agencies have recognized that the IVR system they implement must be scalable and must work with existing telephony systems as well as emerging technologies. This product is aimed at agencies that have been considering installing or upgrading IVR services but have had compatibility or scalability concerns.”

The IVR product is based on the company’s Presentation Services framework, Mr. Bacchus explained. The framework separates the application logic from the various devices used to access the information and enables transportation providers to centralize their data maintenance and development efforts.

Trapeze previously released Web-based customer information applications for both fixed route and paratransit services based on the XML framework.
