Pittsburgh Commuters Ride with RidePro
New regional ridesharing program powered by Trapeze Software
JANUARY 27, 2003 (PITTSBURGH, PA) – The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and local transportation agencies have launched CommuteInfo, a new regional ridesharing initiative powered by Trapeze RidePro software.
CommuteInfo is designed to reduce traffic congestion, pollution and single occupant vehicles by matching individual commuters with convenient carpools, vanpools and public transportation services.
“It’s very gratifying to see our software in use right here in Pittsburgh where it is developed,” said Rick Bacchus, President of Trapeze Software Group. “The combination of a simple-to-use web site and telephone service make it exceptionally easy for commuters to find a safe, convenient alternative to their own car.”
RidePro, America’s most widely deployed ridesharing application, uses advanced algorithms to match individuals who need rides to and from work with other commuters or organized carpools and vanpools. “It’s also important that in this case, the program integrates the various transportation alternatives that serve the area, such as public transit,” said Dan Bower, RidePro Product Manager for Trapeze Software Group. “The launch of CommuteInfo is particularly timely in light of the final phase of the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel Reconstruction Project, which affects more than 140,000 commuters each day. This is an important step in making a meaningful difference to our congested road system.”
Pittsburgh area commuters login to the web site at http://www.commuteinfo.org/, enter their origin, destination and preferred travel times, and the RidePro software automatically finds the most compatible match for their commuting needs.
RidePro is also used by rideshare services and employers offering incentive programs such as Guaranteed Ride Home to encourage carpooling, vanpooling and public transit use. More than 70 metropolitan planning organizations, public transit agencies and large employers in the United States and Canada use RidePro.
