DART Goes Live with Trapeze On-line Trip Planner
INFO-Web delivers 24/7 trip planning
JANUARY 28, 2003 (SCOTTSDALE, AZ) – Trapeze Software announced today the launch of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Internet trip planning website powered by Trapeze INFO-Web.
Based on XML technology, DART's online trip planner can be accessed by any Internet-connected desktop computer. Wireless devices including mobile phones and Pocket PCs will be able to access the site later this year.
Passengers enter a starting point, a destination and a preferred departure or arrival time and INFO-Web generates itineraries using scheduling and routing data from DART’s Trapeze system. Results can be sorted by total trip time, number of transfers and walking distances. Drop down menus also allow users to select origin and destination points by landmark.
“The Trip Planner is the latest step in our passenger information systems,” explains Stephanie Schuchert, Customer IT Systems Integrations Manager for DART. “We have had agent-attended trip planning since early in 2000, so the next step was to extend this service to the Internet.”
Since going live on January 6th 2003, DART’s Trip Planner has received an average of 800 daily visitors making over 12,000 related page views, approximately 25% of the page daily views on DARTs main web page DART.ORG.
“Feedback from our customers indicated that a large number of our passengers wanted 24/7 access to trip planning. Being able to deliver this service helps us to both reduce trip plan related traffic to our Customer Information phone lines and provide a better level of service to our customer base,” Schuchert says.
Trapeze INFO-Web is designed for fixed route operations to deliver around-the-clock trip planning services to passengers who have internet access. The INFO-Web framework uses the XML language to enable wireless devices such as mobile phones and Windows CE devices to access trip planning sites anywhere. It integrates with the Trapeze FX and other leading scheduling software applications.
“The addition of INFO-Web to its suite of Trapeze products continues DART’s long tradition as a pioneer in advanced transportation systems to improve efficiency, service and customer satisfaction,” said Rick Bacchus, President of Trapeze Software Group.
DART operates light rail, the Trinity Railway Express commuter rail and 130 local and express bus routes with a fleet of 877 buses serving 42.8 million passenger trips in 2002. The overall DART website averages 4,700 visits and 33,000 page views per day. “The increased traffic related to the Web Based Trip Planner will push us over the 1 million monthly page views mark for the first time.” Schuchert says.
