Smaller Organizations Embracing Mobile Computing
Trapeze clients in Austin, Cape May implement mobile solutions
September 29, 2003 (Scottsdale, AZ) – Trapeze Software announced today that two of its customers have launched mobile computing solutions. The agencies use in-vehicle hardware to connect via a wireless network to Trapeze software systems and enable the agencies to schedule and dispatch passenger trips and track vehicle movement in real time.
Austin-based Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) has been using Trapeze PASS for more than a decade to schedule and dispatch shared ride rural services for nine counties in Central Texas. CARTS recently installed mobile data computers on a third of its fleet of 60 vehicles, and plans to have the full fleet equipped by end of year. The mobile computing solution enables paperless itineraries, updates, trip status information, automatic vehicle location (AVL) and other data to be communicated in real time. CARTS currently schedules more than 500 trips per day.
The County of Cape May Fare Free Transportation also recently implemented a mobile computing solution. Located in Cape May, NJ, Fare Free Transportation is a community paratransit system that provides demand response, subscription, and modified fixed-route bus transportation service to senior citizens, people with disabilities, veterans and others on a seat availability basis. The agency uses Trapeze software to dispatch trips, send and receive text messages from drivers and track vehicle movement on the integrated system map using GPS technology. Fare Free Transportation operates 52 vehicles and schedules approximately 800 trips per day.
“These new implementations demonstrate that mobile computing is being adopted by organizations of all sizes. Many of our clients who use mobile computing technologies with our demand response and fixed route scheduling applications are smaller organizations that have seen how these technologies can improve service, productivity and safety,” says Rick Bacchus, President of Trapeze Software.
