Gwinnett County Live with MapNet AVL
New Interface Provides Real-time Bus Information for over 1,100 buses
OCTOBER 28, 2003 (BEACHWOOD, OH) – Trapeze Software announced today that its MapNet AVL interface is now operational in Gwinnett County Public Schools in Lawrenceville, GA. This is the first live implementation of the MapNet interface to automatic vehicle location technologies in a school bus fleet, and one of the largest installations of its kind in the country.
Gwinnett County Public Schools, the tenth largest district in the United States, uses bus transceiver hardware from West Lawn, PA-based Everyday Wireless in its fleet.
“With over 1,100 buses performing 6,000 daily routes we wanted to pinpoint the exact location of our buses in case of an emergency, and to make sure safety restrictions were being followed by our drivers,” says Grant Reppert, Director of Transportation for Gwinnett County, “The Trapeze MapNet AVL interface and Everyday Wireless equipment will allow us monitor our entire fleet of buses and extract route and other data to analyze our operations.”
The AVL interface provides real-time location and location history for school buses. Additional features include driver alert notifications, safety zone alerts and speed limit alerts. The AVL information is automatically compared with the school bus schedule to develop compliance information, ensuring accurate route planning.
Trapeze MapNet is a comprehensive route planning, scheduling and transportation management application used by school districts throughout North America and the United Kingdom.
Mr. Reppert will be speaking about Gwinnett’s AVL solution on Wednesday November 12 at the National Association for Pupil Transportation annual meeting in Salt Lake City.
