Regina Chooses Trapeze Transit Technologies
System will automate fixed route scheduling, service planning and customer information
June 23, 2004 (Toronto, ON) –The City of Regina has selected Trapeze to implement an advanced software system that will streamline and automate service planning, scheduling and customer information for Regina Transit, the City’s public transportation authority.
The Trapeze system automates numerous time-consuming tasks associated with creating timetables and scheduling vehicle and operator work. The software includes Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities that will enable Regina Transit to graphically map bus routes and geocode the exact locations of stops, timing points and transit facilities.
The Trapeze system will integrate Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies. Automated passenger counting (APC) equipment installed in Regina’s vehicles will interface with Trapeze service planning software, enabling Regina to more accurately capture and analyze ridership patterns, prepare random sample reports, adjust service according to passenger counts, and design better, more efficient routes. Currently 10 of Regina’s 98 vehicles are equipped with the APC equipment.
The customer information application, fully integrated with the scheduling and planning software, will enable the Transit Information Centre to respond rapidly to questions about bus schedules and travel directions. Transit riders will also be able to go to the Regina Transit website to look up schedules and generate detailed travel itineraries simply by entering a starting point, a destination, a date and a time.
"The City of Regina is excited about the new Trapeze technologies we are implementing,” said Jeff Stusek, Director of Transit at Regina Transit. “These technologies will certainly enhance our current service."
In 2001, Regina Transit implemented Trapeze software to manage scheduling and dispatching of its paratransit service.
